IV Kitten

11 Jun

IMG_9676

Today, July got a 3-day dose of pain meds, and IV fluids, and kind of a spa treatment under a heat lamp.  They’re keeping a shunt for the IV strapped to her leg so they can do some more tomorrow.  Her weight is still down (690 g, down from 850 on Saturday).  Jet is still losing slightly, so I’ll take him in tomorrow to for probably some subcutaneous fluids.  He’s still alert and playful, some of the time.  Jax is gaining back a little and Jumbo is resuming his impressive weight gains.

The oral antibiotics they’re getting makes them drool frothy strings of white spit plus I assume some antibiotic.  It gets harder each time, but they forgive me soon after.

I’m assuming they are getting metronitizole… Cause that stuff is horribly bitter! but it does work wonders.. I’m not sure if you can find them around you, but they do sell empty gel caps to put medicine in.. it might be helpful, it might not… especially if all you can find are the larger ones..

If not the next best trick I’ve had is to get something SUPER yummy to them to offer them as soon as the bitter meds hit their mouth.. offer a bite, pill, offer the rest. Sometimes this can keep that drooly mess contained some..

Purrs to them that they start feeling better and regain their weight right quick!

Clavamox with Flagyl. I prefer liquids with kittens, and I do have chicken available for them. When I started, they weren’t very interested in eating anything. Now, they are eating, and their frothy drool reaction is less. They are doing better, thank you. (Jet and July are at Club Med, getting extra liquids, but they are better).
